Mendig (Population: 10000 Peoples) lies in Rheinland-Pfalz, 25 km from Koblenz (Population: 200000 Peoples).

Near Mendig is a beautyful lake named Laacher Sea. On the Lake is a famous monastery named Maria Laach. It is very old and very pretty.

From this lake I caught the biggest fish in my life, a Hecht (Muskie) with 1,18m length and 12kg weight.

In former times one dismantled Basalt under the City and giant Caverns have been built. To this day Mendig is famous for dismantling rocks.under the city,and serve as an attraction for tourists who walk through.

Before cold-storage depots were existed, Browerys from all areas of Germany stored their Beer in barrels in the giant cavers where the temperature is consistent. Down there is always the same temperature.

In the old days, Mendig had 28 browerys which gave the town the nickname Beercity.

Every other year to this day, usually on "Christi Himmelfahrt," they celebrate a big
party to the beer-god Gambrinus, revolving all two years (mostly on "Christi Himmelfahrt").

In addition to this event, the last browery in Mendig produces a verygood gatronomy and culture not expected of a small eifeltown.

Due to the favourable traffic connecting (Exit A61 coming from direction Cologne-Bonn or coming from Koblenz, exit Mayen or Polch) and due to the small distance to the Nuerburgring Mendig becomes more and more interesting for Tourism.

Achim Schubach, the holder of the restaurant and Hotels, is a very nice person and a very good cook. In case you come around talk to him and he will follow your wishes. Please order your little beer, since you otherwise will receive a big one without notice.

Georg Steffens, well known in Mendig as Donauschorsch established his restaurant in the Bachstrasse. Georg fights for the upper cuising and learned his craft only at the best addresses. If you wish fish, meat or mums kittchen, you will surely find something for you taste.

"Papillon"
Papillon ist the ultimate Pub in Mendig. You will receive here your best beer (Warsteiner or Jever), have good music, meets nice people (beyond them the Prinzengarde), enjoy good Ambiente and it can happen that you feel one ordinary sunday morning the Mallorca-fever and that you feel transferred to Playa de Palma. The holder Ute and her Team (Irmi,Uta,Tamara and what their name all are) are always friendly, nice and attentive. If you ever come to Mendig, go to the pub.

One of the most famous bars in Mendig is the Balthasar Mintgen, we just call him Baeltes, is the holder and a well establishe original of town. When he once comes into action, he tells stories of former times. His stories of old and better times of thieves, hunters, liers or only of the good old time are unique. You will meet here everybody, the bank director, the clerk, the stonemen or the unemployed. Strangers are at first eyed with skepsis, but they become easily contact to people of town. But you don`t have to be sensible since there is a rough tone, never meant insulting. Apart from theat hot discussions, for example concerning Baeltes new horse or what is Schmitze Brunn today wearing are on the daily news. In summer everything is transferred under the free air an we will sit under a Pergula on a stone-table, giving place for more than 25 people. The one who ever came to Mendig and didn`t see the Baeltes didn`t see Mendig at all. (Bear in mind: Only Beer in bottles, but Prices as in grandmas times)
